MINERALS

Colors of the Earth

Color of Culture

The diverse colors of the earth has been a source of pigments for paint since humanity began expressing oneself through images and words. Without color, cultural development would never be the same.  These colors are unique to their origins and have created a sense of place through their use by the cultures who lived within their close proximity.

History of Pigments

Throughout history humanity has found ways to express oneself through the use of natural minerals that are unique to each place.  These minerals were eventually traded from one region to the next and eventually across continents. Over the years humanity shifted from natural pigments collected from the earth to the use of pigments produced in a laboratory with various chemical elements.

Natural Mineral Paint

Sustainability starts with the very materials we use that occur naturally and are not toxic to use for pigment in  paint.  The source of the materials is also of importance.  A material that comes from a local area has less of a carbon footprint then those from far off landscapes.  Collecting materials in a sustainable manner is also of great importance and should embrace the concept of leave no trace behind.
